The purple-crowned fairy-wren (Malurus coronatus) occurs nowhere else except alongside waterways in northern Australia from the Kimberley to western Queensland. The male is characterised by its striking purple crown which occurs during breeding season. Both male and females have brown backs and wings and bluish tails.
