Granite sun orchid (Thelymitra petrophila) is endemic to the south-west of Western Australia and one of the most widespread orchids in the area. The granite sun orchid grows in a range of habitats, most commonly on or around granite outcrops, and can be found across the Wheatbelt and Goldfield regions and as far east as the Great Victoria Desert and Nullarbor Plain. Its flowers open on warm sunny days between August and November.
