The males and females can be distinguished by the colour of the bands on their tails. The males sport crimson tail features while the females have light yellow to orange, which contrast magnificently against their dark body feathers. Adult birds can grow to between 50 and 61 centimetres and lay their eggs between March and April and July to October.
