The splendid fairy-wren (Malurus splendens) is a striking animal, easily identifiable by the male wren’s blue breeding plumage with bands of black across the base of the tail, breast, beak, through the eyes and across the back of its neck. Females are mostly brown with light blue tail feathers, with a reddish line from their eye to their beak. They eat mostly insects and forage on the ground of shrublands and shrubby woodlands in arid and semi-arid parts of Australia.
