Gould’s monitors are found throughout Australia where they shelter in burrows, hollow logs or dense leaf litter. They reach a length of up to 1.6 metres and can weigh as much as 10 kilograms. They are voracious predators and actively forage for insects, mammals, reptiles and, opportunistically, on carrion.
