Ospreys (Pandion haliaetus)are medium-sized raptors that have a wing span of up to 1.5m. They are found around most of the Australian coast and can sometimes be seen fishing in the Swan River Estuary. Ospreys nest in huge structures that are often 2m high and can be used by several generations. An artificial 'nest' sculpted by local artist Tony Jones was erected at Pelican Point on Matilda Bay Reserve in the hope it will attract a nesting pair.
